Technology Update: Light + Building Frankfurt 2026 Insights by Herwin Gunawan
At Light + Building Frankfurt 2026, the global building industry gathered to explore the future of lighting, smart building technologies, electrical infrastructure, sustainability, and connected environments. Held at Messe Frankfurt from 8–13 March 2026, the event showcased innovations that are transforming how buildings perform, interact, and support human well-being.
As a Building Physics and Technology Consultant, I participated to examine emerging trends in human-centric lighting, intelligent building systems, building automation, energy efficiency, occupant experience, and integrated design strategies. The insights gained reinforce the importance of combining architecture, acoustics, lighting, thermal comfort, digital infrastructure, and sustainability into a cohesive high-performance built environment.

The DataKustik company visit provided valuable insight into the integration of CadnaA, CadnaB, and CadnaR acoustic simulation platforms used worldwide for environmental noise prediction, building acoustics planning, and indoor sound analysis. The experience reinforced the growing importance of predictive acoustic modeling in supporting healthier, more sustainable, and human-centered built environments through data-driven design and performance engineering.

Participation in IRCAM Forum 2025 provided valuable exposure to the latest developments in sound innovation, immersive audio, artificial intelligence, spatial acoustics, interactive technologies, and digital creativity. The event brought together an international community of researchers, artists, engineers, and technologists exploring how sound continues to shape the future of human experience, architecture, and technology.
