Announcement of continuing my service as International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) Advisory Team
What is International WELL Building Institute (IWBI)?
The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) is leading the movement to promote health and wellness in buildings and communities everywhere. IWBI delivers the cutting-edge WELL Building Standard, and a professional suite of tools to empower our global community of leaders to match their convictions with their careers.
What is WELL Advisory Team?
WELL Building Standard introduced ten concepts of wellnesses, each of which comprises a unique design intent. Those concepts are air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind, and community. In making the Ten Concept standard, IWBI got help from the concept advisory teams. Each team consists of several advisors with an in-house IWBI expert as the concept leader. WELL Concept Advisors might be experts in one or more of the Ten WELL concepts.
My Service as WELL Sound Concept Advisory
I’m pleased to announce that I will again serve as an Advisor for the 2022 WELL Sound Concept Advisory. WELL Sound Concept Advisor provides guidance to WELL on how to reduce harmful or distracting noise through the interior and exterior building elements, surface finish treatments, and enhanced noise control. Last year with other Sound Concept Advisors, we made a new sound concept for Rating Guidebook, Performance Rating, and Performance Verification. And this year, we will continue to identify strategies that will help enhance health and well-being for people everywhere.
My Service as WELL Health Equity Advisory
I’m pleased to announce that I will also serve as an Advisor for the 2022 WELL Health Equity Advisory team led by Dr. Angelita Scott and Gayathri Unnikrishnan. Health Equity Advisory develops Diversify Equity Inclusive (DEI) Rating, so everybody can feel inclusive and equal in working place. The IWBI Health Equity Advisory identifies opportunities to make the healthier place accessible to everyone, everywhere.
“Health Equity means that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible” ~ Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Why do you need WELL Certification?
The modern and urban population spends significant time indoors environment and this can have a less than profound effect on the human body. Designers and business owners are taking note, and programs dedicated to health and wellness have infiltrated many indoor environments. But there is one more step the designers are taking – optimizing entire buildings to constantly address issues of human health.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the critical role a building has in supporting people’s health, safety, and well-being. Most of the COVID-19 transmission case occurs within indoor and enclosed environments, where people spend approximately 90% of their time. While longer-term design strategies are important in reducing the risks of infectious disease spread, the urgent need to meet high health and safety standards in existing buildings prompted this rating to focus on strategies that can be implemented immediately within the scope of facility operations and management to protect stakeholders from acute threats.
