Paul Noritake Tange
November 2024
Attending the presentation by Paul Noritaka Tange with Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (IAI) in 2023 provided a valuable opportunity to gain direct insight into the design philosophy behind the iconic Cocoon Tower in Tokyo. As one of the most recognized examples of contemporary educational architecture, the project demonstrates how architectural expression, structural innovation, and urban identity can be integrated into a highly functional learning environment. The session offered a deeper understanding of how visionary design can respond to the challenges of dense urban contexts while creating meaningful spaces that inspire creativity, collaboration, and future generations.
Beyond the architectural achievement itself, the discussion highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary thinking, long-term vision, and human-centered design in shaping the built environment. Learning directly from Paul Noritaka Tange reinforced the value of architecture as both a technical and cultural practice—one that influences how people experience cities, education, and community. The event became an inspiring exchange of ideas that continues to inform our perspective on design excellence, innovation, and the evolving role of architecture in society.
